Actions requiring Dean's review and endorsement/approval must be submitted through dssdoi@ucsd.edu

This includes:
  • Academic review files that cannot be processed in APOL Review, including joint/split appointments, Career Equity Review (CER), etc. 
  • Leave and sabbatical requests
  • Temporary academic appointments (Unit-18 NSF), including new appointment files and extensions. 
  • DSS Course Buyout Program and FSEP
  • Recall appointments
  • Policy exception requests

Department and Program Assignment

DSS Protocol for Departments Contacting APS Directly 

In partnership with APS and as an effort to maintain good communication between departments, Dean’s Office and APS, we’ve discussed and worked out the following protocol effective immediately (12/12/2017):

  1. State complete case
    1. No hypothetical cases
    2. Be prepared to give the name of the faculty member
    3. Be prepared to disclose the background and current details of the case
    4. APS will inquire if the department has consulted with the Dean’s Office
  2. After discussion, it is incumbent on the department to recap the conversation in an email to include the APS contact (Kevin DelMastro kdelmastro@ucsd.edu or Laura Hawes llhawes@ucsd.edu) and the AP Dean’s Office.  This will avoid any potential unnecessary confusion.

Note: this protocol is applicable to Academic Advancement and Compensation. Inquiries to Academic Policy Development and Academic Compensation & Data Reporting (namely PPS entries) are excluded.
